Special Kids, Special Care Photo Contest
Have you ever wondered how families are engaged in our early intervention services, public health nursing care coordination, or in-home nursing or lactation services? All too often families who are most in need avoid accepting such services because the written word does not convey the relationships that develop between the therapists, nurses or other providers. This relationship between families and providers is a very important way that families build capacity and confidence in caring for the individual needs of their infant or child. Also, our donors and sponsors often do not understand how our services support families. We want to change that.
Who can participate?
We invite all who work with families in our community in the home, clinics or other settings, to think about the relationships they have with their families and how they might convey this relationship in a photo with families with whom they work. Examples of photos include a therapist showing a mom how to do tummy time or a nurse showing a dad how to position a baby for safe sleep. I’m sure there are many other ideas.
How will the photos be used?
The photos may be used in our professional education programs, parent education materials, announcements about events held by Special Kids, Special Care, or on the Special Kids, Special Care website. The photographer and the families will be asked to sign a consent and indicate if they want to limit any ways in which the photos will be used.
